OK Go join The Go-Go’s to make ‘The OK Go-Go’s’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’
OK Go and The Go-Go’s are the lastest groups to combine forces for "Mashup Monday" on ABC’s "Jimmy Kimmel Live." The two bands came together to temporarily rebrand as The OK Go-Go’s during Monday’s episode of "Kimmel," performing a combination of OK Go’s "Here It Goes Again" mixed with The Go-Go’s "Our Lips Are Sealed." If you missed any of the performance, you can watch it now by using the media player included with this article.
Sadly, no treadmills were involved in the collaborative concert. But joining the upbeat pop-rockers with a classic 80’s pop group definitely raised the energy on the stage, particularly since the songs that they chose to mash up were both the kinds of songs that were already established as pop anthems everyone knows and loves to sing along with. As "Mashup Monday" choices go, this was one of the better combinations.
It also provided some great promotion for OK Go at an important time. The band has a new single out, "This One Moment", which is from their most recent album Hungry Ghosts. It’s another unique idea as the group collaborated with food company Morton Salt for the accompanying music video, so they’ve gone from dancing on treadmills to using condiments as a prop. Hungry Ghosts is OK Go’s first record in four years and has peaked at number 19 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums Chart since its release in October.
OK Go do not have a full 2017 tour planned, but will be joining the likes of Tenacious D and Sugarcult for a one night only concert at Hollywood’s Fonda Theatre on May 14; tickets for that show are on sale now here.
As for The Go-Go’s the band officially said goodbye to touring with a farewell tour last summer. All of the members have gone on to their solo careers, but it was a nice detour to see them back together on the "Kimmel" stage, particularly with a group that most music fans wouldn’t have expected them to play with. Based on Monday’s performance, though, is it too late to suggest a collaborative album?
The previous "Mashup Monday" involved Lady Antebellum and Bell Biv DeVoe creating Lady AnteBell Biv DeVoe. You can watch that performance here.
