John Mellencamp offers free stream of upcoming album ‘Sad Clowns & Hillbillies’


John Mellencamp fans pumped about his upcoming U.S. tour and highly anticipated release Sad Clowns & Hillbillies, which drops April 28 via Republic, can whet their appetites with a free preview of the album. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has made his 23rd studio album available for streaming in its entirety for a limited time via NPR’s First Listen series.

The Grammy winner unveiled the news on April 24 via his official John Mellencamp website. Fans can check out in-depth comments and listen to all 13 tracks, including the singles “Easy Target” and “Grandview” here until April 28.

A follow up to 2014’s critically acclaimed Plain Spoken, Sad Clowns & Hillbillies was recorded in Belmont Mall Studio in Belmont, Indiana. The album features an eclectic range of songs with major songwriting and duet vocal contributions from country star Carlene Carter, as well as guest vocals from Martina McBride on the album’s second single “Grandview.”

The “Hurt So Good” hitmaker has been hard at work promoting the upcoming release, recently appearing on an episode of "CMT Crossroads" with Darius Rucker, as well as making a guest spot on AXS TV’s on "Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar." Prior to the album release, the busy roots rocker will be making an appearance April 26 on NBC-TV’s "Late Night With Seth Meyers."

Mellencamp will also perform a set and chat with host Jim Kerr on April 27 in New York at iHeart Radio Theater. The show will be broadcast live via iHeart Radio and nationally on select local radio stations. Click here for stations in your area

The multi-platinum seller will launch the U.S. summer leg of his Sad Clowns & Hillbillies Tour on June 5 in Greenwood Village, Colorado, at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre. Mellencamp will be joined on most dates by guest artists Emmylou Harris, Carlene Carter, as well as sister duo Lily & Madeline and will wind up the summer trek Sept. 3 in Canfield, Ohio, at Canfield Fair.
